This procedure, carefully calculated through a Virtual Plan, allows the patient to have a normal mouth-opening chew, speech, and several other functions.
The Custom Temporomandibular Joint Prosthesis is developed from a tomography where a detailed study of the patient’s needs is made through Computer Assisted Design (CAD-CAM) and DDS Pro Software.
Titanium parts are custom-made in 3D, based on calculations of the actual size of the bone structure of the patient’s face. The next step is to mold the skull prototype into resin and thus communicate the biological conditions of the patient to the maxillo facial surgeon.
The main total prostheses of the TMJ are indicated in such cases:
-Ankylosis of the TMJ
-Reabsorption and degeneration of the TMJ joint
– Poorly resolved condylar fractures in which it evolves to condylar absorption
– Mandibular tumors in which amputation of the temporomandibular or partial temporomandibular joint is necessary
